Providing Free Wifi to 2M Filipinos, Oct 2019
Google Station, Smart Wifi and Department of Tourism Partnership Signing
I got a chance to represent Google for the contract signing event by the Department of Tourism and Smart Communications to provide free public wifi to historical sites in Intramuros Manila. Smart will use our Google Station platform to provide free, fast and secure wifi to all tourists and visitors in our historical sites in Manila.
This was a proud moment for me since this was my last month on the Google Station project and it was great to cap off my stint with this event. Together with Smart we were able to roll out 600 Google Station sites around the Philippines in a matter of 6 months. This gave about 2M users a month free high speed wifi.

Johnny giving a talk about serverless technologies for Google Cloud On Air Korea
I'm glad that my talk on building a Serverless Beyond GCP: Taking Advantage of Google and Third-Party Services was also broadcasted to a Korean audience. It was nice to see some Korean subtitles to my talk and this made me feel like I was a guest actor on a Korean TV show. My talk was about how to use 3rd party services such as SMS, Online Payment Gateways and even Google Assistant to help improve your web site. I even got to do a live demo where I used a Google Home to interact with my web site in real time.
